My only Red Rocks run. Being a Bay Area head, you didn't have to tour to get your 15 shows or so a year. This was my only real tour--Frost, Portland, Seattle, Boise, Park West and the Rocks--wished I'd been able to get to Santa Fe, but had to get back to NorCal for school. That first night at the Rocks was the best night, but we got to see the bust out of Wang Dang in Portland, saw a great Spanish Jam at Park West, and this great show (plus two other fine shows at RR). I lived In Colorado from 9/77-8/79, but I seemed to be in the Bay when they were at the Rocks, or in Colorado when they were at Winterland. But I did catch two legendary Winterland shows--6/9/77 (also Grok-worthy) and 12/31/78.

You saw some mighty fine shows. Was the closing of Winterland as crazy as it looks on the DVD?

Well--it was the first show I ever dosed at and only my fourth show--so yeah, it was pretty crazy--at least from my point of view. I was so lucky to be there that night--I was home from college in CO, and got lucky in the lottery. I "got it" on 6/9/77, so I knew what was going on and how special it was--but I was still VERY green. I really ramped up my passion for the boys and being at shows after this night. It's one of the reasons I came back to the Bay. So many shows so close to home.

Well that would have made the Blues Brothers a strange sight in that state of mind. Any comments on Belushi and Akryond?

It was fun enough--great band--but I always felt it was a bit of a novelty act. I dunno--I was a huge SNL fan, and it started out as kind of a bit, you know? Thay were cool, but I may have been trippin pretty hard for that set. I think it was Mr. Natural blotter, quite strong--I remember my state of mind was perfect for the midnight countdown and 3 sets of GD.
